In the big speech at the party there was the implication that there were a lot of people there who were concerned about her, hence the invitation. Yet, no one's behavior during the rest of the movie reinforces that. Sure, not everyone was in on it, but her mom just laughs when she states that she might be an alcoholic. Sure, if that's out of the blue there might be an uncomfortable laughing off, but if she was really lured there out of concern, I would think a parent would use that as an opening.
Nothing made any sense. I don't mind that she didn't change in the end, but if your point is that people don't change then you have to say it in an interesting way. I just don't see what anyone involved in this project saw in it.
