Same thing, yes. I rooted my phone a few hours after I got it. :-) I couldn't stand having those useless pre-installed apps.

I made mistakes and haven't found a way to brick it yet. I've always been able to start over and get everything back.

A great site for smartphone tricks, tips and rooting advice is XDA. I'll link you to the forums where you can find your phone and a ton of advice and info.
