Spawn, the reason I think Skyrim is so great is the reason you apparently don't

Yeah, you can do tedious stuff in Skyrim. But tedious is in the eye of the beholder.
A Halo campaign for example forces everyone to play pretty much the same way. You always have to get from point A to point B and eliminate the Covenant that block the way.
But in the Elder Scrolls games, you can do whatever the hell you want and call it a successful game. I do think a bunch of stuff is tedious, but others don't find it so.
Darcy loves to make jewelry in real life, and so the first thing she maxxed out was her smithing. She kept getting silver ingots and gems and making jewelry, so she had a blast doing what I find to be a grind.
Trish moves so slowly in the game that it drives me nuts to watch her. She likes looking at everything. She never finished the main quest in Oblivion because Oblivion gates bugged her. But she had a lot of fun just going through the forests and picking alchemy ingredients.
She complains that I move too fast and I might miss stuff because I like accomplishing quests, getting through a dungeon, finding the boss and the boss treasure.
So that is why I think its great, you can play it any way you want and all can have a good time.
