No, I'm arguing the entire sequence is one of understandable aspects.

This is like arguing that signing Albert Belle in 1998 was a horrible choice becuase he was crippled within 2 years despite being the active Iron Man at the time of the contract.
Brees Season 2 & 3 QB ratings were 78 and 65 (yes, he declined)....they had to draft a QB becuase Brees was not showing it. That he figured it out in Season 4 & 5 made a tough choice....which then solved itself when he suffered a bad shoulder injury.
How bad, Miami said thanks but no thanks; we'll stay with Cleo Lemon.
Hindsight 20/20, it's the wrong choice. But let's be realistic...picking Rivers over a healthy Brees is not the equation.
