I *majored* in religion and anthropology (which was paired with sociology). my dad told me "study what you love, and the job will come."

which, I suppose, eventually it did at ZH. and that job got me here, which is great. but it's a huge hurdle when it comes to getting the next job.
I could talk forever about how employers say they want diverse backgrounds but only hire indian and chinese engineers, or how employers say that they value communication skills more than anything and then hire people whose english is so bad that they couldn't get higher than a C in communications or business ethics, but I'll spare you.
suffice it to say that what people say they're looking for and what they hire are radically divergent. I'm on the losing end of a very large battle here.
