I understand the theory. I question whether the NYT would be able to pull it off in a factual non-partisan way.

For example, from the link.

"Any assertion that he has apologized for U.S. actions rests on a misleading interpretation of the president�s words"

It's the NYT's opinion that this interpretation is misleading. This is not a case of 1 person saying the Sky is Orange when in reality the Sky is Blue.
