Martin is still the full time catcher with Cervelli backing him up right now. There are two kids in the minors with one a bit more ready to move up

to the show. The Yankees are stocked at C for the time being. There was nowhere for Montero to play on the field. He's not good defensively or at calling the game behind the plate. He has an average arm.
He's really fast and not just for his size, he was just slightly behind Gardner on the team in speed. He can likely find a spot in RF which would seem to be a better fit for him than 1B. The Mariner have Smoak at first but he doesn't compare to Montero at the plate. Tough call for them if he doesn't improve as catcher. IIRC, Seattle also has two other catchers that they really like so a bit of a logjam for them there as well.
