How I ranked them and their letter grades:
1. Money Ball, A
2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, B+
3. War Horse, B-
4. Cowboys vs. Aliens, C+
5. Stonehenge Apocalypse, D+
6. Hangover 2, F
Yes, Money Ball was great. Given my propensity to fall asleep during movies (both in theater and at home), this had me transfixed. You don't even have to love baseball for it to be good, although I do. The acting was so natural and dead on perfect, I found myself totally caught up in the story. Plus kudos to Aaron Sorkin, nobody does dialogue like he does.
Apes exceeded my expections. It was actually a very good movie. Andy Serkis should get some kind of award for his body of motion capture work.
I wanted to love War Horse, I really did. The cinematography was gorgeous, the actors looked "real". Unfortunately it suffered from the typical Speilbergian deliberate emotional manipulation. That just pisses me off. The story was good enough that it didn't need the opaque emotional push. Plus, I fell asleep in the middle at the theater.
Cowboys vs Aliens: what can I say, it was a shoot 'em up western with a twist. I liked it well enough, although Harrison Ford looked like a dried up seed pod. The flick was cliched as hell, but I kind of like those cliches.
Stonehenge Apocalypse: so bad it was hilarious. Mark and I watched it last night on SyFy. It was worth it just to watch "Castiel" from Supernatural in the lead. Honestly, if you love cheesy SyFy flicks, try to find this one and watch it. It's sooooo bad, yet sooooo good. Trust me.
and finally, Hangover 2. Mark just HAD to rent it. Even after so many of you here posted how bad it was, he redboxed it. It's like telling a little kid that something is hot and not to touch it and they touch it anyway, that was Mark and Hangover 2. Let's put it this way, it threw under a SyFy network movie.
