Thoughts on the backdrop (spoilers)
|
... for me, the Katrina backdrop evoked the idea that the individuals who died in the flooding of New Orleans all had individual stories before they figured as a statistical group in the hurricane. It's a kind of inversion of the "Titanic" strategy, where Rose's life receives its decisive impetus from her place in a collective experience; so in "Curious," we have the weak supernatural shadow of the life of Button (the retrograde clock, the partner of the "Heart of the Ocean" gem in "Titanic"), but the lives of Daisy and Button are complete and compelling before the group event happens.
