Rooting your phone will allow you to delete any of those apps/programs that came pre-installed. You won't lose anything.

You gain the ability to have total control of your phone. You'll be able to install apps that will allow you to speed up or slow down your processor and other fun stuff that will make your phone run faster, smoother and better.
I rooted my phone to get rid of the crap that came with it that was taking up valuable internal storage space and to speed up my processor.
You can void you warranty but I don't know of and haven't heard of anyone having a warranty issue after rooting an Android phone. I rooted my last phone as well and had to return it after I dropped it and cracked the screen. No issues what so ever. They actually sent me two replacement phones, but that's another story.
