the computer dials phone numbers that are generated automatically (not just those listed in the phone book).
when a connection is made, it connects to an operator.
means you don't have to be on a list, your phone number was not necessarily sold. but the companies should respect your demand to be put on a blacklist.
actually it's in the interest of the company to do that: that way they call only those who are willing to listen and maybe buy something.
