I believe that is faked. I think they can changes shades of green and brown. -- nm

hmmm, googling suggests different species *can* turn weird colors. but that looks very fake to me.

wiki says the primary purpose is for signalling to predators or other chameleons, with camouflage secondary -- (link)

Octopussies do color based on environment. Given the usefulness of it, I'd assume chameleons can too. -- nm

this appears to be a convergent trait (like eyes in mammals and insects) so there is no reason to assume it works the same way. -- nm
