she is talking in absolutes. One or both of them has to compromise, there is no way around it.

in your case, you've found ways to work it out. If they're stuck on absolutes, that can't happen. I have known several couples divorce over this when neither would or could budge.

I worked it out by saying, if I want to be with this person, I have to stay in this place I can't stand. That's it.
