I've been on Timeline for months. I don't see any difference in what is shared, only in how it is presented.

There is a major change in availability of old status updates (easier to get to ones way back in time) but that's stuff that you shared with your friends originally, so they aren't making something private suddenly public.
As far as I can tell, there's nothing privacy-wise to worry about
