It sort of depends what you're talking about. Private facilities aren't allowed to offer facilities that are covered under the Canada Health Act which is a big long document that I don't really have the patience to wade through. Most of the "private" stuff are things like private CT and MRI facilities (it's how Canadian sports teams can "jump the line" for injured players. Also, we had to pay directly for my wife's ultrasounds when she was pregnant), physio, sleep clinics, dental and eye care.
You can get Blue Cross or the like for prescriptions, dental, vision, physio, home nursing, ambulance, private rooms at hospitals, etc.
The notion of a privately run hospital doesn't really exist here in the sense of Grey's Anatomy, or whatever. On doing a quick search, there's one that handles specifically arthroscopic surgery in BC, but it's also considered kind of a renegade.
