seem more appropriate to have emergency lighting in the cabins.

the cabins probably or corridors probably had very small emergency lights - like in a theatre, just enough to follow.

The passengers have reported that it was pitch black and it was hard to find their way around so it sounds like the corridors were not lit. -- nm
