Skyrim note to self: never start a quest that requires you to go half way across the map to an area you've not yet been to in the middle of the night.

I spent a good portion of the last hour wandering around in the dark and getting killed by things I couldn't see in the pitch black.
Responses:
Just wait. As soon as there aren't any enemies nearby, just wait until around 7 am. Obviously you can see much better and it makes a big difference. -- nm
