users give back-up e-mail addresses, in case g accounts were hacked or the like.
recently, they started having a message at the top of the g-mail screen encouraging importing of mail from those particular accounts. crappy.
google may not know much about me (how I use them has to play into that), but my backups are AOL, and they offer tons of info. about my actual shopping habits and more. I've used my oldest account with them for almost all my online shopping for xx years and another "ancient" account for almost all bills that long.
not all the messages are easily accessible, if at all, because most were stored as hard-drive files; but, man, there's still so much more storytelling there than gmail.
a lot of people mock AOL, but their excellent spam filter and low level of pushing crap on users and/or being sneaky remains better than any other place else I've tried. that's a big reason I've kept those old accounts in use while still trying other services along the way. (I sometimes wish I could change account names, though, heh.)
when google started telling people not to use the same passwords there as they do at other sites that made me glad I didn't use it for anything very sensitive. add in the recent stuff, and I'm even more glad. oof.

I still like old school AIM. I'm not sure what Google is up to though... Mostly looks like putting all the privacy piles in one so they can get a more

All your stuff was in one pile anyway. That one account name/password gets you into Gmail, Docs, Reader, Calendar, G+

yes. I really don't like the "if you don't like it, don't use it" approach, especially after getting people this far into use of the sites involved.

I mean, if you're really that concerned about it, Yahoo does the same thing if you have mail there.
