What changed in Peyton is that he began to understand how much interceptions hurt a team.

His father had raised him to believe that QBs had to be gamblers. The reason Wuerffel and Florida beat Peyton and UT is that Spurrier could bait Manning into throwing into heavy coverage. Spurrier understood perfectly the flaws that come with being an unparalleled talent at QB. You develop Superman Syndrome and forget that you have weaknesses. Year two with the Colts was when he finally started to mature in this regard. An entire off-season of hearing about 28 interceptions got to him. He had a minor setback in his fourth and fifth years but it was never a problem again after that.
