...I would always get his read on potential girlfriends (arrange for us to stop by the house for a minute so I could change after work or something, she waits in the living room with the dog while I go change my shirt).
When I return, the dogs body language and facing told me what I needed to know.

He also understood when I was interviewing new roommates, and he would pick one he liked and then get indignant if I interviewed anybody else after he decided who he wanted. (Sometimes I'd have a couple interviews in one day, and I didn't want to call the last guy and say "sorry, my dog already picked somebody." He did a good job at picking good roommates.
