Theoretically, I could ... rearrange the cables, so they bypass the Tivo and just go straight to the TV.

ok. cable box's 'cable out' goes to the tv's 'cable in'. 1 coaxle cables should do it. but I do not know your setup and why the colored cables must -- nm
