Xboxers: How do you have your headphones set up with HDMI?

I tried getting some third party dongle thing and it only had the sounds in one ear and rebooted the xbox all the time. I'm thinking of using the headphone jack on my receiver but that seems kludgy

Do I have to spring for true wireless now?
