Both sides are bankrolled from out of state.

Forest and trees. CA residents voted for this, not the people that bought adverts. CA has a vested interest in defending laws passed by its own people.
Just because you agree with this particular decision shouldn't blind you that this argument could easily be used against an issue you like in the future.
