I had to wait until now to say anything because there's been a big to-do over leave at work.

A new request policy was instituted last year (requiring negotiations with the union) but it's not working out for many people. Lots of people (me included) have been denied leave for times we got it in years past. Last week I was denied nearly every day I requested in the 1st 6 months of the year. However, someone noticed a flaw in the automated system that allowed those of us in the know to go back in and re-request the denied time and we got it. Upper management is not pleased and may come back to undo the approvals. The new system was supposed to make the process more fair but it's only pissed people off (many with lots of seniority). So as we get closer to Memorial Day I still might not get those days off. If that happens there's still a small chance I could get days around the weekend before. I'll let you know if anything changes.
Of course, I have furlough to look forward to in August/September so there's another opportunity for Chicago or us coming back up your way.
