I've done this a few times - they have regular shuttle buses direct to Midtown. You can also take a train to Newark Penn and there are trains from

As Roger says, there's also a shuttle service. Where are you going in Manhattan? That will impact cab prices. -- nm

I think the United flight to LGA is best. 2pm dept., layover in Chicago (pick you up), midnight arriv., I get some sleep, start the day fresh. -- nm
