the lies thing at the start is not necessarily so, and it looks more like thinking as a symptom for the rest of what's happening.

if she holds everything back, no duh things are going to be bad.
she needs to at least approach him about counseling, and she could use some herself in any case; or she can just stew in her unhappy.
