Help me read between the lines here

I'm on a hiring committee, and the administrator responsible trusts my judgement and asked me to be on the committee. My official duties are over, we have sent finalists for the final interview with the administrators and written up strengths and weaknesses for each one.

She asked me to go over the list with her (which technically I'm not supposed to do) and she asked me which one was my top choice. I did and explained why.

We went over their weaknesses and she said that they'd probably ask a question about x and he might not know about that, and it would be good if he knew about y, because they are going to ask...(she said some of the questions they are going to ask in the final interview)...and generally went into way more detail than I would expect.

She knows I have his contact information (he looked me up on our directory and sent me an email thanking me for making him feel at ease when he was getting nervous...I simply said what I always say if someone gets nervous "You wouldn't be sitting here if we didn't think you could do the job.") Anyways, it seemed like she wanted me to prep him for the final interview, which would violate so many HR guidelines it isn't funny. But I don't know why should be so specific about some things and saying "I hope he has a good answer for x"

What's going on here?
