would you voluntarily give up your raise?

your company is in rough financial shape - no imminent threat of going under, but facing serious shortfalls.

said company is still intending to give its usual raises for the next FY, but they will be down sharply compared to past years. you know this will create hardships for some of your coworkers.

you & your family are in decent shape, and could forgo income increase for the next year w/o problem.

company sends out a mailing asking employees if, on an individual basis, they'd be willing to forgo a raise for the next year, with the understanding that the money intended for you would be going to augment raises for others. forgoing a raise would be done confidentially.

would you do it?
