In response to "I have done it unknowingly on several occasions. In fact, I just got a letter last week about something "illegal" that I had to fix from a 2005 retur -- nm" by Amy

and that when the irs audited him, found the mistake, he paid what they demanded.

he just didn't pay the taxes that the IRS couldn't go after, which is something I bet 95% of americans would also do.
