So, i have ONE picture I need printed by tomorrow. It's a family picture I took of the couple who is having their 25th Anniversary party tomorrow. I took it at another family thing in December and it's them, their kids and their grandson. It's really great and I was going to get a 5x7 of it framed for them. Right.
Downstairs in the mall is a Blacks Photography (ubiquitous Canadian chain for those that don't know). I have their software on my work computer because we print stuff there all the time. So, i started trying on Wednesday to send the picture via the web. My software wouldn't even load. Okay. So, I start trying to do it from their website, blacks.ca. I can upload, i can order, but when i hit "checkout", it just hangs. I let it go for over an hour yesterday. Not working. Today, as I am running out of time, I put the picture on my USB drive (my cute rubber cow i carry with me) and take it downstairs. Turns out their computers they use for this stuff (ie: the computers the customers use to order pictures from in store) has a super narrow USB drive slot and my cow doesn't fit - like the body of the drive needs to be super thin to actually fit in the space they give you. The two staff guys are all "Oh, this happens all the time, we have an extendor." Okay, great. Except, the extendor doesn't work. They try it on a different machine. Nope.
They offer to just take my drive, send it to the lab (in house) and give it back to me with my pictures. I (lie and) say there are work documents on it, I can't do that. I just assume at this point that they will lose it, so they aren't getting it. THEN one of them proceeds to start lecturing me about the dangers of carrying my important documents on a portable drive. I say "I know. Not that this matters. I just need a picture.:
Then, the other guy says "You could buy one of our USB drives here, go to the Apple store, ask them if you can transfer, and bring the new USB drive back here and upload your picture."
At this point, I was like ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? You want to sell me a $10 drive, when i own tons of them, so that i can buy a 60 cent photo from you. You are a photo place. It should NOT be this hard.
At that point i said "Never mind, i'll order it online from Walmart." and walked out.
