Yeah my best zoom is the 70/300mm with the image stabilizer (a must) I can get away without using a tripod if I have enough light. -- nm

The bird pic today turned out ok without a tripod ... And without IS -- nm

Was it max zoom? With good light you don't need IS. I took all of my Night Hawaii shots trying to hold the camera as steady as I could.
