I'm not suggesting that you are being universal in your statement.

I just think that our society is far too quick to excuse criminal behaviour due to a certain "victimhood" of those committing the crimes, and that this is a perfect example of it.
I don't think you are correct to assume that Gitmo has been nothing but torture throughout the stay. For the most part, I would bet it's just your standard prison and that only a handful of the prisoners - if any - weren't already involved with AQ or other terrorist organizations.
Even Khadr - though a kid - was invovled in the death of an American soldier. The only question, depending on who you trust, was whether he threw the original grenade or just provided cover for his buddy.
