In response to "not really" by pixitude

This happened with computer science; they turned it into a business and lured people in who wanted a quick buck.

Those people, who did "well", washed out. But only *after* flooding the market and causing all the jobs to dry up.

Then enrolment plunged because the jobs were gone, so the colleges cut the programs waaay back.

And now there are jobs, and no one with the skills to fill them - because the people who were lured into the industry were too ill-equipped to deal with the real-world challenges of the rapidly changing industry.

It's like a microcosm of other professional fields, with a much much shorter refresh rate.

Thankfully, my new job is helping me get a jump on important portions of the new paradigm for the next refresh.
