if you don't want whatever birthday/year you may have entered in your profile to show to anyone who clicks on your username (or finds it another way), you need to go into your profile there and choose to not have it show.

(i was fairly livid about this earlier, and i don't care who knows how old i am. the whole you-need-to-opt-out as default thing ticks me off so very much, and when it's for previously private identifiers it sucks extra.)
