help at the point my mom required 24/7 care, our family hired someone direct that had been employed by a care giver service ... and we were able to pay a lower cost (no overhead, insurance, etc.) and the employee made more than when they were under contract by that business. It was still costly, but we managed to have my mom stay with me (in house I had bought from her so it was all familiar to her - much less stress) - right up until she passed away. My heart truly goes out to you, your wife and family - I know it's tough.
