In response to "Who here (other than zeit, presumably) has ever bought a car, new or used, without test driving it?" by The Most Interesting Stephen in The World

I did. I was stationed overseas and needed a car when I was back in the states. The military had an awesome program for buying cars.

Had to be an American car. You put nothing down and paid 0% interest. The max length of the loan couldn't exceed the duration of your remaining service commitment. You paid real dealer cost plus $99.

You could also completely avoid sales taxes.

I got a Dodge Shadow because I thought it looked cool. Yeah, back when I was young and dumb.
