I used white people problem because there's a meme along those lines.
As far as I can tell, there are three parents that would be paying (they have a lot of money so I don't think they'd bring up freeloaders as an issue). They are kinda using the graduating public school kids as a lure to get me to do this. If I had to pick one, I'd rather continue on with the kids I already have a rapport with, but I don't want to abandon the younger ones who have just started.
It's one of those weird situations where it's win-win but also lose-lose. I don't need the money, but extra spending cash is always nice. I mostly do this to help the kids.
I know there's often a stereotype that public school kids are poor and private school kids are rich, but this is Silicon Valley, so the public schoolers aren't getting subsidized lunches or anything.
The networking effort would be very helpful for the kids. I might even tell the parents that they could get enlisted to either talk about their line of work or mentor another kid who has similar interests.
Even though the program was started to help "at risk" kids, these are kids who have parents that are engaged in their education, and care enough to sit through my discussions with the kids. So they are hardly "at risk."
