In response to "I just can't see myself getting upset over not getting 3 X a normal raise." by Strongbad

this is why i'm trying to decide how i would feel about it if it happens, so i don't react poorly.

i think the source of my frustration is that i *know* compared to the other people in my area in comparable positions, i'm paid substantially less, even after the raise to fix it. the way salary increases work here (and i suspect other companies too), once you're low in your salary range, it actually becomes pretty difficult to catch up to other people, because the budgeting and rules are so strict. so if the one timer was just to get me in the vicinity of my peers, just to let all my peers get a substantial head start on me again, that's frustrating, not so much in terms of this single raise as much as in terms of my total reimbursement.

it's also frustrating because my managers are shit managers, and most of the ideas in the department about dealing with staffing shortfalls, reallocating work more efficiently, etc. have come directly from me. so like, fuck y'all. i'm doing your job too, fuckers.

(but these are separate gripes. i do appreciate the perspective on the isolated issue of the raises in proximity to each other.)
