I agree with what you've been saying but my problem with this kind of thinking is Jeff Francoeur...

He famously said, "If OBP is so important, why don't they put it on the scoreboard?" Historically, what we used as regular stats were inaccurate, which was Bill James' entire point. He once wrote a letter to White Sox management that showed how much better Frank Thomas hit on artificial turf just because he thought somebody should know. To this day, he's unsure whether anybody read the letter.
