You may also want to look at the Palomar (another Kimpton) right near there. It's got a more modern feel if you like that.

I've also heard good things about the Hard Rock Hotel right near there. If you're going to Zanies, take a look at the Public Hotel (used to be the Ambassador East). Hip new hotel and walking distance to Zanies. All pretty affordable.
