As a card-carrying member of the non-artistic masses, I don't "get" most art. But I can enjoy a nice painting. And if I'm willing to pay for it, then I'm not being ripped off.

I can understand your disdain toward him as an artist. I just don't follow the ripped off portion of your animosity.
