Your point emphasizes the difference between writing for adults and writing for adolescents.

The story has to move fast, use a lot of dialogue and not rely on metaphysical or philosophical discussions to move the story along. Also, since most metaphor goes over the heads of the target audience things tend to "it is what it is".
This was also true of the Harry Potter books. I was always amused when adults read them and complained they were too simplistic and black and white.
