Go to fidelity or vanguard. Open an IRA. Pick a target date retirement fund. Invest.

All of our accounts are at Fidelity and I know that they let you put in X dollars each month (there is a minimum) rather than having to put in $3k in one chunk each year. Most mutual funds have a minimum investment but if you do the X per month at Fidelity they waive it for Fidelity funds as long as you are on the plan.
