Friday night i was supposed to meet an old friend for dinner etc. She ended up sending me a cryptic text cancelling at the last minute. so so so out of character. then, i couldn't reach her all night - trust me, i was worried.
then saturday morning goes like this:
1: my mom calls at 8am - her next door neighbour, (who i know, she still lives in the house they bought 40 years ago) was killed in a freak accident Friday. he was retired and working as a crossing guard. he was standing on the sidewalk, not even crossing, and there was a car accident right in front of him, the car carreened onto the sidewalk and he was killed instantly apparently. Then #2 - my friend who went MIA the night before emails to say she's left her husband, taken her 5 year old and gone to stay with a friend. He's always been a little controlling, but since his mother died in January i guess he's gotten just crazy about stuff and it all came to head Friday and she left for good. Yesterday, she rented a house nearby to him so that it's easier on their daughter, but, wow, wasn't expecting that, she isn't a flighty, melodramatic person, ever.
Then #3 - another friend (the one with almost-4-year-old twins) called. She was locked out of her house. i have her spare key. she wasn't even wearing shoes (she was running in and out of the backyard and girl-twin was playing with the door and locked and closed it on her - my friend was outside with boy-twin, the other was inside alone). she was calling from the next door neighbours phone and pretty panicked (her husband is a cameraman and was working in another city.) so i had to drive over there with her key asap. the girl-twin was watching cartoons and laughing at mommy, fyi.
this was all before 10:30 saturday morning
