you need someone there with you to say "pitch it" "toss that" "get rid of that" ... "take a picture of it and throw it away" ... "you haven't used that in 10 years donate it so someone else can have it"

I myself am terrible about giving stuff up - and a good friend did this long distance on the phone with me when I was taking care of my mom and had to clear out a room. He was brutal about it ... I mean ... I REALLY needed 10 squirt guns of varying sizes, but he just convinced me the technology would be so far advanced that I'd want new ones. He was right :)
