Anyone familiar with the linux ulimit settings?

I am trying to run a process that will need a lot of open files and it is telling me the default setting of 1024 is not enough.

The user account I am using does not have the permission to change the ulimit -n setting and when I login as root, the changes I make there has no affect on the user limit. Any idea how I change the limit for the user?

  - "ulimit -n" in userspace as root should change it on the fly and setting the sysctl.fs.file-max should do it on boot. What linux flavor? -- nm - oblique Apr 16, 11:02 1
