A few thoughts. First, amazingly that "privilege" of carrying the card is actually pretty valuable since it gets you the negotiated rates that the

insurance carrier has negotiated. You will likely still get a better rate on the MRI than the cash pay. It still runs through your insurance. Second, usually a high deductible plan is tied with an opportunity to use a Health Savings Account (so you can put away the money to pay your healthcare costs on a pre-tax basis. I also have a high deductible insurance, but find that the combination of the lower insurance premium and the pre-tax money for the HSA is a better deal. You should look into the HSA.
