I appreciate this and the thought you put to it. Rereading last night's thread I can see why people interpreted my reaction as dismissive.

I honestly didn't know he was serious.

you know, it is hard to behave in exactly a way that will please everyone, especially people who hate your guts, when you are the bottom of a pileup. If you haven't been there you don't know. I was just trying to stand back and not make it worse.

I chose what I thought was the least inflammatory route, and the one that affected the person in question, rather than the mob.
