Almost everyone I've talked online but me believes that Marty didn't die, but fooled the system into thinking he did. That makes zero sense to me because:
- We see the vitals for each of the 5 victims on screen. So Whitmore/Jenkins know when each are alive or dead.
- Marty is sickled in the back by one of the zombies.
- He's not able to walk, and is drug over a mound by one of the zombies. At that point, we see blood splatter.
- The control room folks obviously think he dies. They release the blood into the sacrificial chamber, and start partying.
- When Whitmore picks up the red phone, he repeats what whomever is talking to him says that one of the four wasn't taken out by the rules properly.
It makes way more sense to me that Marty is revived because of some rule violation. As opposed to Marty being sickled in the back, being drug over a mound, he magically finds enough strength to dispose of the zombie himself then quickly rewire things by the elevator so that they think he's dead.
