Coachella Day 2 Part 2 Report

As an aside, I was reading in the local Palm Spring paper this morning that for the three days of weekend 2, there was one record setting high, one day with a degree of the record, and Sunday while not a record it had not been that hot since like the 40's or something. So hottest Coachella that I've ever attended.
So given that, it was perhaps brilliant that Veronica and I settled on the you go to your early weird bands and then come back and get me.
So we headed out, got dinner at the restaurant at the Ace Hotel, got slightly turned around for parking and still made it on to the festival grounds in time to catch like the last two and half songs of Noel Gallagher's set on the main stage. Perfect for everybody involved as the sun was setting so the heat issues were tempered for Veronica and I got to see/hear Noel perform Don't Look Back In Anger which had people singing along and running toward the stage.
That gave us 20 minutes or so to St. Vincent's set so we got some iced coffee and headed over there. Now I'd read reviews of her week 1 performance so I knew that there was the real possibility of going nuts with her guitar but all Veronica knew was her recorded stuff. St. Vincent live rocks! I'd like to think that the reason Annie Clark took the St. Vincent name is that she becomes possessed with a different person when it is just her and that guitar. There's this soft spoken person that talks to the crowd between songs and her singing voice limits her to what she can do there but she absolutely destroys that guitar and is all but punk like in her playing. She was crowd surfing at one point. And for her closing number it was all punk in the delivery of the song. I won points with Veronica for that choice.
Then it was back to the Brits. When the lineup was announced, it took me a second scan through to realize the Kasabian was buried in the middle of the lineup. This is a band that headlines festivals the size of Coachella in Europe and here they are somewhere in the middle? They absolutely impressed and had the crowd going wild. We, ignorant americans, sang along with Clubfoot and LSF but Kasabian knew that they were better than that and put those songs at about the half way and 2/3 points in their set. They completely took the crowd along on unfamiliar and new to them material and they were happy to go along.
Next up was a couple of songs from Bon Iver and kudos to him for reworking his songs into much larger arrangements suitable for his main stage performance. Actually this was more by chance as were looking to kill time till Veronica's selection of David Guetta.
David Guetta was entertaining but Veronica was deeply offended by the antics of the bro's in attendance and given that this was another performance where the crowd was spilling out of the tent, the actual being there was less than ideal. Apparently (as she put it) one too many, beer swilling, frat living, bro pushed by or danced into Veronica and so she tapped me on the shoulder and we headed out of the madness.
Miike Snow had started their set about 10 minutes before we left the Guetta madness so we headed over to their Outdoor stage set. Not really my thing but I was kind of enjoying there set but then Veronica's worst nightmare occurred as Guetta set ended and a large portion of those (including the infamous bros) audience members headed over to Miike Snow and engulfed what had previously been a rather tranquil (well at least generally listening and quiet during songs) group. I think we were there for one more song after that crowd shift.
So that was cut short and given the only act that we had interest in was Kaskade and the thought was that was going to be worse than Guetta, we called it a night.
